Go Where You Want to Go

By

The C&O Canal trail goes from Washington DC all the way out

To Cumberland, nearly 200 miles away,

Of one thing you should have no doubt

There is no trail like this throughout the world over

It’s the perfect place for anyone to just knock about.

The flora and fauna have not changed to much over the last 200 years

(a great relief to those from the area, enough to inspire cheers)

And the rocks can tell you exactly what has changed over a billion years

With crustacean and land animals finally living like peers.

There are many towns along the way

And nearly 50 campgrounds where you can stay.

But if you really want a challenged to remember

Plan to spend a month or two (I recommend you make one September)

And walk any one of the trails that intersect with the C&O.

From this trail you are free to head wherever you want to go.

Keep straight on the trail as it merges with another

And end up in Pittsburg (it’s a very long walk you will discover).

Or you can branch off and take the Appalachian north or south

Both are interesting is the word of mouth.

There are several other trails that with the C&O collide

You will have years worth of exploring along each trail divide.

One of my favorite parts of the C&O TowPath Trail is an area called Big SlackWater. It is, as pictured above a bridge of sorts that rides the rocky cliffs and suspends you out over the Potomac River. this is a long ride and most memorable! Click the picture above to go to a link of how they built this incredible area!
