Hemlock and Upper Bucks Ridge Roads

By

May 7, 2015 the WooFDriver and his crew took the WooFPAK for a Mushing tour of mountain roads Hemlock Road to Upper Bucks Ridge Road in Pennsylvania. They mushed through four different park areas including the start in Big Spring State Forest, passing through Hemlock Natural Area, Tuscarora State Forest, and Fowlers Hollow State Park.

They started their mushing tour by the Big Spring State Forest Picnic Area that was opened in 1936 after the railroad failed to tunnel through the mountain. The tracks they left were used to transport picnickers to the area in the early 20th century. As the mushing adventure came to an end they passed by Fowlers Hollow State Park. This land was clear cut in the early 1900’s by the Perry Lumber Company and when the land was exhausted from the logging operations the state of Pennsylvania purchased 2,573 acres and constructed the park facilities.
